Sachin Tendulkar breaks Test run record

Sachin Tendulkar breaks Test run record as India start well against Australia in Mohali

There was a double celebration for Sachin Tendulkar in Mohali as he overtook Brian Lara's world record of 11,953 Test runs, and then became the first man in history to go past the 12,000-mark.
But Tendulkar could not add the statistical milestone he really wanted, that of a 40th century in his 152nd Test.
Having moved to 88 with a surge of vintage strokeplay, he fended at a ball outside off-stump from the persevering debutant Peter Siddle, and was brilliantly caught by Matthew Hayden at first slip.
Tendulkar had come in at something of a mini-crisis, as India lost three wickets in the space of 25 minutes. From the first ball, though, he played with an air of composure, flicking trademark singles off his legs and crunching Mitchell Johnson for one memorable drive through the covers.
